If Conservatism is about pulling yourself up by the bootstraps, why do churches rely on the charity of its?

members to survive? Why are they given huge tax right-offs when they (some) push the conservative political agenda. There's a church near my home. I watch the pastor get out of his shiny new car. And return to his 7br home, all on the backs of his struggling congregation. It's one thing to pull up your own bootstraps.
