So the modified circuit becomes a 1kohm resistor in series with a 2.5 ohm resistor(the effective resistance of two 5kohm resistors in parallel).So the effective resistance over the cell ,and thus over the series circuit is 3.5 ohms .So the potential over the 1kohm resistor is (1/3.5) x 4.5 v.and for the two resistors in parallel it is (2.5/3.5) x 4.5.
