Waffen SS alternate history way of doing things (Afghanistan) no rules of war.?

During world war 2, when ever a German soldier was killed by ''insurgents'' they would go to the nearest village or town and kill about 50 people as revenge, what im saying is if the coalition troops did the same thing in afghanistan, when they got ambushed by the taliban to the people of afghanistan would this stop the war in afghanistan very fast? because the taliban would see that we did not care about their loved ones and then attacks on our troops would stop very fast? would it work? or would this way of doing things fail?
