Any suggestions on how to effectively follow God's plan for your life?

Ever since I was little, I have wanted to live in the city. Someplace vibrant, someplace with more history than what crops were planted in which years. I have been living a kind of metropolitan lifestyle, but now it seems like God has told me to abandon that. Without the city, I don't really have that many more interests. I love learning about peaople and cultures, but without the city, it is harder to do that. I would say that it must be God, but I am not sure because there is this feeling of condemnation that seems to be going along with it. Does anyone have any helpful advice?
