Has the progressive movement in the USA created a generation of dependent whiners?

Last night at a friend's who just had a baby I had to listen about how it is going to cost her $80 every two weeks to have health insurance on their newborn and it isn't fair that the state won't put her on state coverage because her work offers insurance. She is already getting WIC and other benefits plus her boyfriend also works and lives with her. She knows I'm a conservative libertarian type and she asks what is wrong with FREE health care, my head almost exploded! Considering they live in a cheap apartment and have two sources of income with time to play video games how can people with this attitude think they're entitled to FREE health care and not realize it isn't free?
