What is the structure of a neuron and what is the function of each of its major parts?

the neuron generally has a large (relatively) 'head' region where most of the cell body is. here we have the nucleus, and other organelles, cytoplasm of course. this area has short potruding , if i may, 'hairs'; theadlike structures called dentrites, that transmit signals to other neurons.then it has a 'tail' region. can be quite long. its called the axon. the axon that allows yu to wiggle your big toe extends to the toe from the base of your spine. when the axon reaches the muscle it takes signal from, it usually divides, or rather branches off, into a number of short branches, ending in knobs. between each knob and the dentrite of the next neuron, is the synapse where neurotransmitter transmission occurs. hope it's helpful.
